Securities Class Action Landscape

Securities Class Action settlements in excess of $60BN have been awarded during the last decade. Settlements of over $3BN were awarded in 2012 U.S Securities Class Actions alone and settlements in this type of action outside the U.S (excluding China) are estimated to reach over $8BN annually by 2020 according to industry sources. Investment Managers have a fiduciary obligation to participate in the Securities Class Action recovery process but according to Stanford Law Review:  “Financial institutions with significant provable losses fail at an alarming rate to submit their claims in settled securities class actions.”
